Main Event Options for UFC 230

UFC 230 will take place on November 3rd 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. There is hand fulls of great fights already on the card. Chris Weidman takes on Luke Rockhold in a very anticipated rematch. Middleweight contenders Ronaldo Souza and David Branch will face off along with Derek Brunson and Israel Adesanya. The co-main event was announced to be Nate Diaz coming of his 2 year layoff to fight Dustin Porier. The only problem is the UFC has yet to decide who will fight in the main event. The reason they are having a hard time is because the UFC likes to hold main event spots on PPV cards for title fights. Right now at the moment there are very little amount of title fights that can possibly be made.

Daniel Cormier: Daniel has been quoted saying that he wishes to fight two fights before he retires in march. Witch of course would imply that he wishes to have one fight at the end of this year and his last fight to be in march of 2019. The November card would fit that timeline perfectly. Witch title would he defend though? With the recent news that Jon Jones can return to the octogon as soon as october, rumors have been circulating that Jones may be an option for that main event slot. Knowing how big Jones is he would be able to make the fight happen at either heavy or light heavyweight. Although the most recent news has Cormier coming out saying that he is only eyeing one last fight with Brock Lesner sometime next year, it would still be exciting to see him keep his word and come back to fight this year.

Max Holloway: With Holloway’s health issues playing a role in the decision, he may be far fetched to be on this card as well. One thing is for certain when he does fight his opponent will be Brian Ortega. Ortega is the number one contender and was already slated once to fight Holloway until injury plagued that fight.

Rose Namajunas: Thug rose fought last back in April, witch has given her plenty of time to rest and train to be ready to go in November. The problem is the division, she is 1-1 with Tecia Torres. Maybe they do the rubber match but Torres just lost to Jedrzejczyk who Rose beat twice in a row. Jessica Andrade just became the number one contender in that division. With a 3 fight win streak over Claudia Gadelha, Tecia Torres , and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The only issue there is that her last fight was not even a month ago on September 8th. Will that be enough time for Andrade to do her training camp and make this fight happen at MSG?

TJ Dillashaw / Henry Cejudo: Both men have called for a super fight with each other that they both got on metro PCS and promoted. Dillashaw coming of an impressive 2 knock out streak over Cody Garbrandt has limited choices at bantamweight. He could fight a rematch with Cruz or maybe even fight contenders such as Marlon Moraes or Raphael Assuncao. While Cejudo’s only fight in the flyweight division would be a rematch with Demetrious Johnson. Johnson was the champion since 2012, if anyone deserves an immediate rematch it would be him. Seeing how their options are slim, it may be the smartest move to have these two guys battle in a super fight in New York.

Whoever the main event is, it will only make this card that much more of a draw. Most people argue that they would like to see Diaz and Porier in the main event. While that is attractive, adding a title fight only adds more excitement. Remember to buy the PPV on Saturday November 3rd for UFC 230 in New York City.
